Re: Griefing Legacy of the Sun's RP Page
- It appears these IP address are from Reston, VA or the surrounding area. Anyone know who lives there?
- Weelock 08:51, 23 June 2007 (EDT)
- Further analysis traces it to Toms River, NJ. Weelock 10:04, 24 June 2007 (EDT)
- Have a bunch of addresses of *cough* wonderful people *cough* from our vent, if you want. One tried a very blunt hack on the admin pass while I was in, as an admin, didn't work, and then got locked off the server. Zenithas 01:12, 11 October 2009 (CDT)
Protecting Character page
After the last rash of Griefers I'm gonna switch the protection level so that only Registered Users can edit information on characters and Guilds....
72.76.142.76 also needs to go, is a griefer. Thank you.
Changing what anonymous can do
Media Wiki Manual is the manual page for Permission, if you look at the bottom is has a list of what is default.
If you change
$wgGroupPermissions['*' ]['edit'] = true; $wgGroupPermissions['*' ]['createpage'] = true; $wgGroupPermissions['*' ]['createtalk'] = true;
to each be false, and then add
$wgGroupPermissions['user' ]['edit'] = true; $wgGroupPermissions['user' ]['createpage'] = true; $wgGroupPermissions['user' ]['createtalk'] = true;
this should make it so that only registered users can edit and create pages.
Those changes should go in the LocalSettings.php
You could also change
$wgGroupPermissions['*' ]['createaccount'] = true;
to false, and add
$wgGroupPermissions['user' ]['createaccount'] = true;
This would disable anonymous user creation, and require that someone who is already a user, create an account for anyone who wants to join. A bit of extra work, but might be helpful.

I've been working on getting the artist gallery set up- now anyone that wants to display all of their screenshots might have a slightly easier time getting it set up. Just add [[category:artist]] to your gallery page to add it to the list! If anyone dissaproves of the way this is set up, feel free to change it.
Organization Thoughts
I had a couple of questions about some of the site pages. There seems to be a HUGE amount of categories for some things, yet very little within each section.
For example Guilds and Groups: Though there are only 13 guilds total, you have this page with all of these categories. The thing is, the Category: Guilds itself seems like a more natural choice. It allows you to break things up if you want, but it has EVERYTHING allready there. One less click, and more to see. Less pages, more content per page. If there's too much content, THEN the user can choose whether or not they want to break things up.
The Category:Characters page allready works like this.
Library only has 8 stories total. It might also benefit from having everything at a glance. The Art_Gallery only has two artists. Why not just have them listed. In fact... the only way TO group the art gallery at this point by artist, so why do we have to tell it "Yes, I want to take the ONLY option available.!"
Just a thought. I realize the way I prefer to organize things is not how everyone will want to, but it's my 2 cents.

Added New Guide
I edited the artist page to include a handy template much like the character's page has. How to add a Gallery is a brand new page that I took the liberty of creating. I noticed that the two galleries currently on the site did not have much in the way of formatting. Wiki image formatting is cumbersome and goes against the grain of BB and html code. The template I created will generate a thumbnailed gallery that looks something like this: Daffodil_Gallery.
I can't do it myself, but I would still like to propose the suggestion that the artist page be updated to have the Artists listed on the page itself without having to "sort by artist". That's the only choice, so it seems silly to have to make it!
Eeek. Sorry to pester you again. I began making series of location pages for the different racial starting areas and some of my favorite rp hot-spots. Haven't gotten very far yet. I wanted to make the same suggestion as I did with the artist page: Have less categories and clicking. There's not that many articles under locations, so might as well see the who shi-bang at a glance when you click "locations" off the main page, rather then having to choose your continent. Dunno. Simplifies things a tiny bit.
Locations Page
Eeek. Sorry to pester you again. I began making series of location pages for the different racial starting areas and some of my favorite rp hot-spots. Haven't gotten very far yet. So far I've done uh... Azuremyst Isle :-/ I wanted to make the same sort of suggestion as I did with the artist page: Have less categories and clicking. There's not that many articles under locations, so might as well see the who shi-bang at a glance when you click "locations" off the main page, rather then having to choose your continent. Makes things just a wee bit easier to find. ^.^

OCD: Kgo!
In a fit of mad OCD, I went ahead and thumbnailed an image on a user's page named Gza. The original bio pic was beautiful... but it was also... 1024x768 and broke the screen at most resolutions. It also pushed his wonderful character information down below the giant image. I kept the image at its full size and simply gave it a thumbnail. If you want to see it in all its glory, all you have to do is click!
This was a case of an obvious mistake. however, there's quite a few character images on this site that are HUGE. Wonderful images, but huge. In the case of the character pages, there's that very tiny space to the right for the user pic. It's not something that they can show full size and center or put any other place if they use the default template.
I was wondering if there's some sort of pixel dimension cut-off point where an image should simply be thumbnailed or resized? I didn't want to just go around thumb-nailing every image I saw, as many of the pictures are quite lovely and I could end up being invasive in my need to make things matchy.
Also, WTB alliance screenshot. I found this wonderful - but giant - screenshot on the horde page. I took it and uploaded a seperate image (the original is still intact!) and made it smaller. It also matches the fun little images used in things like Azuremyst Isle and Silvermoon City, with the graphic text and cut-out characters in front. Here's what it looks like. I would love a similar group shot of Ravenholdt's Alliance for the alliance page if that's at all possible. ^.^ I have some group shots of Alliance from Shadow Council, but I'd prefer to use a screenshot unique to this server. Makes it more special.
I also think it would be cool to have screenshots for the racial and class category pages, but that is a rather epic undertaking, and I don't know if people sort by class and race enough to warrent the extra image.

Oh, and I love that the links off the main page now take you straight to shared category pages like the characters page <3 Thankies!
Aww...
Aww... it looks like my admin rights was revoked in some sort of manner... oh well, guess i'm off to wowwiki.com then o.O (Admin Wise) Stevenw9
Fun times with IP addresses
Bearing in mind that some people can throw about their IP addy...
- 69.226.209.137
- 72.134.46.134
- 70.20.247.30
- 69.73.72.149
These are people who've had their addys banned for various offenses from our vent server, which says a lot considering that two of our members have an almost daily "nigga" joke contest. >_>
I think 70.20.247.30 was the one who also tried pretty openly to hack the admin pass on the server, as well - even going so far as to try to find inventive ways around my being present. Like: "If you were the admin of a vent, Zen... and you wanted a secure password for the vent server... what would you put for the admin password? After all, I mean, we're friends, right?"
... So yeah. People are arguing with me about my stance on bullets being great aids for the medicial treatment of bacteria in the human gene pool. I'll be back on later. Zenithas 23:41, 11 October 2009 (CDT)
