Mevlin stands around 6 feet, 2 inches. His light-brown hair goes over his neck, and a beard is across his face. A seasoned warrior, Mevlin almost never takes his Axe off his back.

Much of Mevlin's childhood remains a mystery. All that is known is that his father was a soldier in the Alliance Expedition and his mother was slain in the 2nd war. Not knowing anything of his past, Mevlin grew up as a blacksmiths apprentice in Lordaeron. Several years passed and after Stormwind was rebuilt, he left Lordaeron to start a blacksmith shop in the Forest of Elwynn. Mevlin's skill caught the eye of Edwin VanCleef, who thought he could use that skill against the House of Nobles in Stormwind. Mevlin worked for whoever was willing to pay for his services and as such became a business partner with the Defias Brotherhood. After a few weeks, he realized Edwin's goal. Mevlin secretly stopped working, refusing to show any Defias operatives his work.
Desperate to get Mevlin's smithing plan's, VanCleef sought to poison him in secrecy, telling him that it was merely a trade operation. Mevlin broke all ties that night, attacking and badly wounding the assassin. After a night of mass hysteria, he swore revenge on Vancleef for raiding through his shop and taking most of his tools.
Several weeks passed during which Mevlin joined the Twilight Empire, and several weeks after that, he joined a small group and set out into the Defias stronghold of the Deadmines. He exited the mines carrying VanCleefs severed head in his pack. Mevlin joined the Alliance officially, stating that it was the least he could do for the assistance he had been granted.
