[edit] Personality
Jack is a careful person, meticulous with his work, and often defensive with new people. At the same time, heβs also inanely curious about anything new. He is often seen as emotionally detached, but the problem lies, really, in the fact that he sees most everything as an object. He has an early obsession with corpses, and realising that they can have emotions has changed his perspective. He has an interest in emotions from a theoretical point of view, watching and learning of feelings and thoughts, and how to use them to his advantage. At the same time, he also has emotions, something which confuses him at times.
His emotional detachment also comes in a mix with the fact that his body has mostly been numbed from pain, making him appear undisturbed by anything at the time. When serving on a mission, he seems to attach undying loyalty to the one who hired him, but again it is more of his professional habit, something he acquired from an old life. There are few he is interested in more than being a mere object with emotions, but as long as they interest him or have no purpose altogether, he holds no hostility.
Morals and honor mean little to him. Jack follows orders, not guidelines. While intelligent enough to see where it would be offensive, he has developed a slight sadistic tendency due to his fascination with pain. However, he is hesitant to act against his own people, or anything he considers β beautiful β and sometimes forms an attachment of sorts to familiar faces.
[edit] History
Jackal's original name is unknown to himself, but he has a basic idea of his life. As a human, Jackal grew up and worked with his father in Southshore, a mortician by trade. Eventually, his curiousity got the better of him, and he begun work on surgery. This worked well with his obsession with anatomies, but at the same time he held little importance for life itself, and many of his patients died, whether from impossible procedures, accidents, or even intentional slipups. The morbid nature of the man and his nearly skeletal appearance meant he had little friends, and none he kept in the course of his life.
The plague arrived, and the people became suspicious after word got out that he allowed people to die. Betrayed by his father, he escaped to continue his own curiousity of the changing world around him, even so far as to be slightly involved in the work of the Scourge. It would be his curiousity which led to his end, though, as he created his own undead being. It escaped and wrecked the shed he was in, but he survived.. only to notice that the noise attracted the nearby plaguehounds who ripped him to near shreds.
Upon awakening, Jackal kept his passion for death, but remembered little at first, recovering it later in the course of his years. As he had little talent for magic and didn't seem physically intimidating, the path of the stalker was given to him, and he adapted to it surprisingly well. Since then, he has adopted the moniker his first trainer passed to him out of various reasons.
[edit] Notes
Jack is capable of ventriloquism, using it to his advantage most of the time to toy with an opponent or assume a conversation with the unanimated dead. This can be both amusing and confusing to watch.
