Physical Description
Gracefully aged, Catriana maintains a highly dignified and well cared for appearance. Though she is certainly quite fit, her role as a priestess dictates no need for true physical exertion and her feminine curves and lack of callouses and scarring bely her position in the rear line of battles. Her rich purple skin is smooth and free of any blemishes, her horns, nails and hooves polished to a refined luster and her charcoal hair impeccably done. Playing off her dark and exotic (even among other draenei) look, she adopts a very subtle approach to cosmetics, drawing attention to her startlingly bright eyes and darkened lips. Cat goes through great effort to tend to her appearance, citing the importance of self-worth and appreciation and dismissing any accusations of vanity as misunderstood.
History
As early generation draenei, many of Catriana's family have seen Draenor before the collapse and sundering of the world. She herself was a priest under Velan during the initial diplomacy with the orcs and the pleasant times that came with it. Unfortunately, she also passed through the period of horrible carnage as the fel-crazed orc clans slaughtered her kind under demonic influence. Fleeing with her husband, two younger siblings and a close friend aboard the Exodar wing of Tempest Keep, a broken spirited Catriana allowed her emotions to take control and kept much to herself during the exodus.
Upon crash-landing in Kalimdor, Catriana and her spouse were quick to turn towards the salvation of the survivors and the security of the Exodar. Busying their minds with the rescue effort, they spent days without much rest moving about the isles and tending to the needs of their displaced community. One of their family's close friends, Aldem, had died upon impact, and it was days before his body was located. Cat refused to hold a memorial, devoting hours in attempting a resurrection before she was physically dragged away at nightfall by her husband, sobbing.
The loss of their family friend was the first of many tragedies to shake the bedrock of Catriana's faith. Soon after, while attempting to slay the dread Razormaw, her youngest sister, Emi, was thrown from the peak Wyrmscar Island, falling to her death on the jagged rocks below. Not recovered from the death of Aldem and dealing with the gruesome corpse of her beautiful sister, Catriana tried a single resurrection and when that failed to bring Emi back from the nether she returned to the Exodar, broken. In light of her presumed failure, Cat was charged with exploring the lands beyond the isle and ordered to present a positive face to the cultures they came in contact with - it was impressed upon her as exceptionally important that she maintain her faith and adhere to the guidance of the Light while on her mission of diplomacy. Begrudgingly, Catriana left for Darkshore with her sister, Kielndia, and sympathetic husband.
Choosing to keep to herself, the priestess often spent much of her time separated from her remaining family and devoted her time and efforts toward the Alliance and their acceptance within it, much as she had distanced herself after the crash. Weeks would pass without word from her husband, and their meetings were often fleeting. They would spend rare nights together, awash with their compassion for each other, and each morning Catriana would refuse to leave his side. Each refusal she made was met with a sad dismissal and a sorrowful utterance of their greater duties and they would part ways, dejected. After the longest stretch of time between seeing him, a sentinel met Catriana outside the Temple of the Moon in Darnassus. Without a single word of greeting, the woman handed her a simple golden ring engraved with the Baranova name and left her in tears, crumpled against one of the temple's great marble pillars.
